Much of my volunteering over the years came as a member of both KEYS Service Corps and Public Allies, both AmeriCorps programs. With those programs, I had the privilege of serving a wide variety of organizations in need. I have, however, done a few volunteer stints in other capacities. They are listed below:

Title: SchoolWorks Volunteer – Team Leader
Organization: A+ Schools
What I Did: SchoolWorks is a community action research program of A+ Schools. I led a group of three people into a school in Pittsburgh to interview staff and gather data on coursework, learning opportunities for students, and support services, among other things.

Title: Field Canvasser
Organization: Planned Parenthood of Western PA
What I Did: I spoke with hundreds of Pittsburgh-area residents about the importance of retaining the right to have access to affordable health/reproductive care in Pennsylvania. I also actively participated in GOTV efforts for the 2014 election cycle on behalf of PA gubernatorial candidate Tom Wolf.

Planned Parenthood means so much to lots of people. It provides a wide variety of healthcare screenings to so many that could otherwise not afford them. I am passionate about those that need healthcare continuing to be able to access these services.

Title: Volunteer (no specific title)
Organization: Boys and Girls Club of America
What I did: I chose to volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club because I truly do believe that children are the future of our world. As such, we need to ensure that we are guiding them in a positive direction as much as possible. While I was a volunteer here, I mentored young children aged 5-16, and assisted with math, science, English, and social studies homework. I supervised their inside and outside recreational activities, which required (many times) that I practice conflict management between students.
